Fiss

Fiss is a chocolate box traditional Tirolean village in the west of Tyrol. Snow lies thick on slate roofs and curls of smoke rise from chimneys. A string of hamlets wind their way up the hill and everything is pristine. Fiss is one of Austria’s most famous and most sought-after ski resorts, and deservedly so especially for families. The attractive Tyrolean village centre retains its traditional relaxed charm and a cosy, intimate feel, yet is big enough to offer an ample range of facilities, and a friendly après-ski atmosphere. It is an one of the oldest Tyrolean resorts and is very Austrian and it boasts a uniform Alpine feel and the people, bars and restaurants make it a favorite with the Europeans. The village of Fiss is part of the Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis ski area and sits high in the Tirolean mountains overlooking the Oberinn Valley and the Kaunertaler glacier. It’s easy to see why Fiss remains one of the best loved Austrian skiing destinations. It’s kept the charm and the feel of its rural village roots while growing into a modern resort with a lively atmosphere. The village centre is as eye-catching as the skiing. A wonderful mix of old and new architecture and remains largely unspoilt with a charming ambience and a selection of traditional après-ski bars and beer kellers. In the neigbouring village of Serfaus you’ll find a charming village, largely traffic-free and a highlight is the weekly adventure night, an impressive display with laers, snowcat, fireworks and a ski school demonstration.

  • Picturesque and charming village
  • Traditional Tirolean-style buildings
  • Fantastic, all-round resort
  • Very family-friendly
  • Stunning scenery
  • Relaxed resort atmosphere
  • Plenty of non-ski activities
  • Lively après-ski

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

If you enjoy spending plenty of time on the slopes, then Fiss is for you. A modern lift system, wide range of pistes and excellent snow record make this a joy to visit. Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis is a fantastic area for intermediates with 168km of blue and red runs to explore, taking you from Ladis at 1200m right up to the summit of Pezid at 2770m. An excellent snow record and carefully prepared pistes make skiing here a dream. It is an excellent area for mixed-ability groups and the children’s ski facilities are outstanding. The skiing and lifts start directly from the village, with skiing back at the end of the day. The resort’s altitude is about as good a guarantee of snow as you can get. What’s more, being in the famous Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis ski area, Fiss provides a huge variety of terrain for skiers and boarders from challenging off-piste powder to leisurely cruising runs. The magnificient Masnerkopf ski area is a favourite with its excellent runs. Also popular is the long Frommes run of 10km back down to resort where you can drink a latte macchiato at the mountain restaurant ‘Frommes Alm’. Above the village the area around Komperdell has a selection of gentle nursery slopes and the wonderful children’s area for beginners to make their first tracks on skis. There are also a numer of longer blues allowing you to explore a little further. The nursery slopes are in the middle of the resort and beginners can discover easy runs in breathtaking scenery above the tree line. The area has a number of black runs, the most challenging being the two that run from the top of Pezid at 2770m. Conditions permitting the off-piste can also be superb and it is definetly worth hiring a local guide to show you the best spots and get you up there ahead of the rest. Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis has numerous freeride slopes and 2 funparks, creating a phenomenal playground for snowboarders. Head to the family cross area in Serfaus with kicks, rails and slides, or try the funpark in Fiss with a quarter pipe, BoarderX, rails, jumps and non-stop music. Off-piste enthusiasts are spoiled for choice and it’s the perfect place to combine off-piste guiding and instruction.
