The ideal ski holiday with (young) children

Relax and enjoy with your children, everything is done and arranged for you

We are all about convenience, relaxation and fun for both parents and children. In our ski chalets, we offer the additional facilities listed below that are specially tailored to the needs of families, but we also recommend that you bring a few things from home, as children tend to be attached to their own stuff too:

  • a travel cot including mattress, please bring your own sheet and duvet with duvet cover, nice and fresh when it is of your own; if you want more cots please contact us so we can look if we can arrange something on your destination;
  • a highchair for easy placing at the dining table, if you want more highchairs please contact us;
  • blanket for in the cot;
  • babycare mat;
  • cover for babycare mat;
  • in the bathroom a toilet seat;
  • a children’s potty stands also here;
  • mugs, impact resistant, without chemical additives;
  • sippy cup, without chemical additives;
  • plates, also without chemical additives;
  • forks, spoons and knifes, safe and easy for children to grip in their small hands and free of chemicals;
  • plates/bowls for chips and fruit purees and chemical-free;
  • bibs;
  • nightlight;
  • socket covers, safety first;
  • apron with chef’s hat to cook with the chalet staff;
  • rug play mat;
  • games box;
  • massive wooden building block set;
  • coloring book;
  • felt-tips for little ones;
  • usually there are a washing machine and dryer which are actually meant for private use of the chalet staff and if you are with children something could always happen and if you ask your chalet staff kindly, who knows.

There was always going to be a time when even serious skiers were going to settle down, get married, and have kids. Which didn’t mean to say we were going to compromise and give up skiing. Only that we were going to have to put a little more thought and planning into making the most of those days on the snow. Speak to any family who has skied together and they will tell you it was one of the most enjoyable holidays they have ever had. Whether your children are experiencing snow for the first time or have already fled the nest, skiing provides a family tie that can be enjoyed together for life. Then our chalet holidays with the relaxed and homely atmosphere is perfectly suited if you are with children, including those of different ages. Now you have time to enjoy your children and that is what holiday is for.

Of course, children of all ages are very welcome in all our chalets on all dates throughout the season. As part of a group, so families can share a chalet, or book the entire chalet for exclusive use. Most of our chalets are ideal for children and in school holidays we tend to have children present in all our properties.

Did you know that staying in a catered ski chalet is ideally suited for a winter sports holiday with (young) children? Every year we welcome many young families who are without exception very enthusiastic about it. Because your own chalet staff takes care of everything and we offer many extras for children, you as parents really can enjoy your holiday. We have thought of everything and relieve you wherever you want. If you like, you can discuss all options in advance with our travel advisors Jolanda and Mirjam and we are happy to take into account your specific holiday wishes. That is the advantage of booking with a personal travel specialist like us.

Can you picture it already? After skiing you will come home in your own cosy and convivial chalet. Have a nice chat with a drink and some snacks that the chalet staff prepare fresh and also for the children. And maybe the kids would like to help the chalet staff in the kitchen with a chef’s hat and apron on. Or they can sit at the table coloring, with some drinks and a snack. How relaxed is it that your own chalet staff take care of everything, without compromising your privacy.

We must stress that chalet holidays are very different from hotel or self catering holidays. We take over Alpine chalets for the skiing season and arrange holidays based on the concept of informal house parties. More fun than a hotel, easier than self catering and better value than both. A chalet offers all the advantages of holidaying at your own home but without any of the housework. You have your own mountain home for your stay. Our guests don’t have to worry about doing the groceries, the cooking, the housekeeping or cleaning up after their stay, as they would in self catering apartments. Neither do they have to observe some of the rather inhibiting disciplines and conventions of hotel life. But you enjoy the flexibility you won’t find in a hotel, like using the kitchen for heating up and preparing food or put something in the refrigerator. This informality makes a ski holiday with children more relaxed and less stressful and creates a comfortable home from home environment that quickly puts children at ease.

It’s your holiday too so why not after a days skiing you can easily spend your evening sipping wine and mulling over the days adventures with your family or some close friends, while the kids enjoy themselves. You don’t have to leave the chalet anymore to find a restaurant, because you eat in your own chalet. We know that parents can only relax and enjoy their holliday when they are sure that their children are safe and happy. You as parents can decide if your chalet staff have to prepare a special child menu which is tailored more towards children’s normal tastes than our adult-only dinner menu, and includes plentiful soft drinks or healthy menus for younger guests and puréed food is also always available for infants on request or simply smaller portions to what Mum and Dad are eating. It really is down to what your family would prefer and this goes for meal times too.

The majority of parents feel that young children can inhibit the dinner-party atmosphere at evening meals, especially if they are over-tired, so our programme is very adaptable for children, which is essential when you are dealing with little ones, so our chalet staff can arrange early meals at for example 06.00pm, allowing parents the freedom to relax in the safe knowledge that their children are tucked up asleep, so they do not join adult dinner as they are generally happier either getting some rest ready for tomorrow’s adventures. This way of enjoying dinner is perfectly suited to families because they offer safe environments that their children are tucked up asleep where parents can relax and enjoy a sociable meal each evening while their children play in their room or sleep upstairs. Your children are close at hand while you enjoy dinner, and the environment is generally much more family-friendly, welcoming and manageable.

Naturally, if you have booked a whole chalet for your exclusive use, the choice of dining separately or together is entirely up to you, whatever the children’s ages. The meals are based on our adult menus, with some flexibility for younger taste buds. So please let us know at the time of booking in writing however, so that we can plan and prepare properly for your arrival. Of course are families with children welcome to share a chalet, but it is essential to coloborate with the other like-minded guests. We tailor the week to your child’s needs to make sure a chalet holiday is great fun and that every child has a holiday to remember. So your chalet staff is happy to take the children’s breakfast wishes into account like fruit snacks, yoghurt drinks, chocolate milk etc. If the children like it, the chalet staff will happily make après-ski snacks or other goodies in the kitchen with them like decorating pizza slices, topping cupcakes, garnish pancakes or putting chocolate chips on muffins before going into the oven. Do you want to make your children completely happy with what they most want to eat on holiday? The chalet staff can varie the menu and they’ll be happy to tailor a menu to your needs. No one’s birthday or anniversary must be forgotten. Just let us know well in advance at booking, in writing exactly when, what and whose special occasion it is, and leave the rest to us. We love parties and we’ll bake a cake and blow up balloons if your child has a birthday during your holiday.

Most resorts offer childcare services, which generally fall under the four categories: babycare, crèche, ski kindergarten and children’s ski school. Babycare: usually run by either the resort itself or local companies and the local tourist board can arrange to put you in touch with a babysitter before arrival. Crèche: indoor supervision and activities for children not yet old enough, or not wishing to ski. Ski kindergarten: usually includes a mixture of skiing and play time in the snow usually operated by the local ski school and age ranges vary and day-to-day operations are subject to local laws. Children’s ski school: the best way for your child to gain confidence in the snow, make friends and most importantly, have fun and available in most resorts, pre-book to be sure of a space and age ranges. You can always ask your chalet staff before arrival and at arrival which options there really are on your destination.

In a lot of French ski resorts childcare is supplied by respected UK based companies. Dedicated nurseries with NNEB qualified nannies or equivalent and have been carefully selected and screened. They are cheerful, welcoming and fun-loving, your children will be safe and secure in the very best hands.
Family ski holidays are all about the great outdoors, having lots of fun and plenty of laughing. Younger guests just love the snow, making snow angels, snow ploughs, or snowballs. Your children will love it and you are never too young to enjoy a ski holiday. If you are in any way worried about skiing with children then don’t be, especially when you have childcare with a nanny service in your own chalet so everything is absolutely done to make sure you feel safe, looked after and happy.

For parents this means being able to leave the chalet after breakfast to head for the first lifts only needing to return after the last one shuts. In Austria and Italy local people who would like to earn a little extra money will do this. Ask your chalet staff if they know people or send an e-mail to the local tourist office, mostly they have a list. In the French Alps UK nurserie companies can offer full day childcare. A nanny will come to your chalet at a time pre-arranged upon booking, loaded with activities to keep your little ones entertained all day and your nanny will happily follow any routines in place and engage the children with a balance of indoor and outdoor play. A few nurserie companies offer lunch. The nannies are fully qualified (NNEB or equivalent) and hold first aid certificates so rest assure your children are in the best hands. These nannies go through a thorough interviewing and screening process, followed by an intensive training course. They are chosen not only because of their qualifications, but because of their dedication and passion for their work. Whatever your questions, nothing is too much trouble and we will inform and help you.

If you would like that your chalet staff do some childcare or babysitting at daytime or on the evening they don’t cook and you are going to a restaurant, just ask them, maybe they love to do it and might want to make an extra penny. With your own chalet staff you can feel safe. If they are open to this then you pay them on the spot and this is beyond us.
