Courchevel - Les Trois Vallées

The Village

Courchevel, considered by many to be the ultimate ski resort, attracts all who search for the very best. Comprising four centres at different altitudes, it is generally agreed that the highest two stations of 1850 and 1650 are the most desirable. Our chalet is situated in the the increasingtly popular village of Courchevel 1650 which has plenty of excellent restaurants, shops, lively bars and nightspots along the main street of the village with a very traditional French feel. Courchevel 1650 started life as a small village, Moriond, which has grown into a superbly developed resort, with its own character and style, and easy access to the slopes. As part of the massive Three Valleys, the friendly atmosphere and compact nature of Courchevel 1650 means that it is fast becoming more popular than its more fashionable and expensive neighbour just up the slopes of Courchevel 1850. If you would like the opportunity to do a bit of people watching in 1850 all the Courchevel resorts are linked by a free resort bus service from morning until late evening to all the Courchevel villages. We have not chosen for the 'celebrity hot spot' Courchevel 1850, where there is a chance to see a Hollywood star on a terrace, but we have selected Courchevel 1650. A village with a cosy 'home from home' atmosphere. The resort has responded well by offering such a diverse range of non-skiing activities that you'll never get bored. In the evening the choice of après ski is extremely varied. If you want to relax in a quiet locals bar over a gorgeous bottle of red or spend the night dancing away in one of the nightclubs. It's very rare that you get the opportunity of enjoying a 2 star Michelin meal on the chalet staff's day off. Dining in the fabulous restaurant in the Chabichou hotel is an experience not to be missed.

The Ski Area

Courchevel plays host to the rich and famous and is, without doubt, France's top ski resort. With its perfectly groomed runs, excellent ski record and luxurious accommodation it's easy to see why people return to Courchevel year after year. Both 1650 & 1850 have an extremely efficient lift system and offer excellent direct ski or bus links into the other levels of Courchevel, La Tania, Méribel and thereafter Val Thorens and Les Menuires. Courchevel is part of the 3 valleys ski area, which is the largest in the world. It’s larger than the 6 biggest American resorts put together! The pistes are primarily north facing, so the huge amount of snow that falls lasts a lot longer than in other resorts. It has had fantastic late season snow over the last couple of winters so great for Easter. The lift system in the 3 valleys is second to none. A new ‘hands free’ lift pass system has been added really cutting queues. With so many lifts and runs in and out of Courchevel there’s you can always avoid the busy Croisette in the morning. Children and beginner skiers are well catered for with nursery areas situated at the bottom of the slopes in 1650 and groomed wide and cruisy blue runs. With a superb lift system Courchevel offers great skiing opportunities for the intermediate skier from leisurely blues to trickier red runs. Experts are well catered for with a choice of challenging on and off-piste runs, and the area is fantastic for snowboarders, from those first few linking turns to confidently trying new tricks in the snowpark above 1850.
